UBC, in partnership with Ascendant Neighborhood Development Corporation, Xylem Projects, the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, and Magnusson Architecture & Planning. The proposed development of the Carmen Villegas Apartments is named in honor of East Harlem community advocate Carmen Villegas. This 28-story, 175,000-square-foot project will be located in the East Harlem neighborhood and will provide 217 units of affordable senior housing, as well as ground-floor commercial and community spaces. The development is designed to achieve Passive House certification and will feature innovative, sustainable technologies such as geothermal heating and cooling, a solar canopy, Building Integrated Photovoltaics, and central ERVs for fresh air circulation in both apartment units and corridors. These advanced features will not only offer clean, renewable energy but also exceed green construction standards.
