Chestnut Commons, located in Cypress Hills/East New York, comprises affordable apartments for formerly homeless, and low-income households. The project includes neighborhood retail space and full-service community center, a performing arts center, kitchen incubator and a satellite college campus of Kingsborough Community College. Chestnut apartments range from studios to 3-bedrooms. In the residential building, residents enjoy amenities including a gym, community room, second-floor terrace, laundry room, and bike storage. This is a passive house-certified project designed to reduce operating costs and benefit all residents.
