The Beacon will be developed by The Community Builders and Ascendant Neighborhood Development, designed by Paul A. Castrucci Architects, and built by Lettire. The project is a 21 story, 282-unit affordable residential building in East Harlem, with 75 units designated for formerly homeless households. The new residential building will be constructed north of the existing East Harlem Multi-Service Center, which will undergo rehabilitation and expansion. The original architecture of the multi-service center will be preserved, while incorporating additional space for after-school programs, a new atrium, a greenhouse on the roof, and the “Wagner Walk” pathway connecting the residential building to the multi-service facility. The renovated facility will continue to host nonprofit organizations serving the East Harlem community. The development designed have a glass roof that gives the project its signature aesthetic by creating a beacon of light that will attract the community to the neighborhood amenities offered on site.
